Machu Picchu in Quechua means "Old Peak". It's the proper nickname for this pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca site that was an active religious, administrative and economic center during the rise of the Inca empire. It was built under the reign of Pachacútec in a magnificent effort to link nature and architecture.
